The Fairy Dogmother

About Samantha

I have always been a caregiver, it is just my nature. I was an elementary school teacher for 20 years, a mom for 18+ years and a dog fanatic my whole life. I have always had dogs in my family. I had a Samoyed, a Peekapoo, and a Pug. However after my last dog passed away I found it was too upsetting to think about losing another dog. So I took a break from dog ownership for a few years. Now with 4 university tuitions upon us, or looming, it just doesn’t make financial sense to add vet bills to the mix. So the part of me that has always found joy from a dog’s unconditional love and spoiling them in return decided that I still need dogs in my life somehow… and The Fairy Dogmother was born.

For a few years I took in dogs and walked dogs on weekends, winter break, March break and summer holidays just to get my
dog “fix”. The dogs have been the source of so many smiles and laughs at our house. We love to get to know each of their personalities. We have had some real characters. Dogs are a great source of calm and happiness for me. I love to snuggle with them and try to bring them the same amount of joy that they bring to me. I really feel like being in a dog’s presence brings out the best in me.

The Fairy Dogmother about-img-1 About Us

After 20 years in education I knew that I needed a change in order to live my best life. So in early December 2022, instead of going back to work as a school teacher I started The Fairy Dogmother and began to pursue my own company for dog walking and pet care services as a full time job. It was a very scary decision to make.

Most of the families that I have met spoil their fur babies rotten and I love it. I adore spoiling them too. I truly love every dog I care for as if they were my own. We all just want what is best for our pets and when a dog’s parents aren’t available, I love being the one to grant the dog’s and family’s wishes. Seeing the dogs happy makes me happy. I know that my clients love seeing the pictures and videos that I send them of their pet’s adventures when they
are with my team and I.

As the mother of teenagers who no longer need me as much, I am filling my need to ‘mother’ by taking the best possible care of other people’s fur babies. I have just switched from caring for other people’s children in schools to caring for other people’s fur babies. Both are equally lovable. I try to treat everyone the way that I would like to be treated and I try to treat every dog the way that their family would treat them.

I am currently half way through my canine nutrition certification program and I am in the midst of completing my CPDT certification as well.
